August 2012: Week One

It seemed like yet another slower week than our typical summer weeks this year.

Cashe started swimming lessons at Gold's earlier in July, so he went to there Tuesday morning.  He is such a little non-pot-smoking Michael Phelps.  Ha!  Not quite, but maybe some day.  He loves the water, but hates being dunked (who loves being dunked though?)  And he BEGS to go swimming every morning.  If he's not in his pjs, he MUSTwear his swimming trunks.

I have been training for the Grand Teton Relay that will take place in a few weeks.  We have a team of 12 who will run 180 miles through the Grand Teton National Forest.  We start in Idaho & run into Wyoming.  It should be pretty awesome, but I have a feeling I'm going to wind up hurting.  My legs are a hard 7.4 miles, a moderate 3.2 miles & another easy 3.2 miles.  We run for 24 hours & start at 9:00 a.m. on a Friday.  It's going to be a LONG day, but it's certainly fun once you get there & get racing although the anticipation is rough & nerve-wracking.

I did get to meet half of our team this week since I only knew the girl who invited me to join the team (& my cousin who will also be joining us from Boise).  We ran sprints at one of the high school tracks & I got my booty kicked.  I learned that I can run a 100 just fine, but a 200 kills me & a 400 is just pointless.  My body goes numb & I just shut down.  So, if there was a 100-mile-dash/distance run olympic competition, I'd totally take the gold.

Anyway ... aside from that, we did have a few visitors & playdates as well this week.

Kelly came through town on her way to Utah & stopped for coffee & a tour of the Falls.
Kelly was one of the very first friends I made when I started work in Boise 7 years ago!

Speaking of work, here are the boys working on their laptops one morning.
Yes, Cashe is draped across Shad's desk & somehow, Shad still manages to get work done.
And yes, those are one of the notorious pairs of swim trunks Cashe MUST wear each day.
Thankfully he has 8+ pairs.
One evening Cashe kept peeking out the door & looking at his empty water table on the patio & he'd say, "chicken, chicken!"
I could NOT figure out what he was talking about & I looked a little closer & saw this tiny "chicken" (aka a bird) perched on Cashe's water table.
He sat there for probaby 30 minutes!
A few months ago, my friend Alexis took Cashe so she could clean her house.
Funny, huh?  She said that if another kid came to play with her kids, they'd distract themselves in the playroom.
Alexis was trying to prep for a big trip this weekend, so I returned the favor & had her kids come over for a playdate.
Here, they're having gummies at the fireplace.
Cheeeeeeese.

And popsicles on a hot day!

And a quick ride in the police car.

Then ... the sweet Cryders came from Boise to visit for the day.
Here Caden is trying to corral Cashe in for a Falls photo.
Eloise is the perfect, little model all ready to smile!

Typical boys hanging on the railing peering over the edge.  No fear.

And here we all are in a 'classic Falls photo'.
It was SO good to see these guys again.
We hadn't seen them in months & it was great to catch up!

As you can see, Cashe CLEARLY misses his HYSTERICAL buddy, Caden.
Ever since those two were tiny, they always seemed to tune out the adults & that still seems to be the case.
They have WAY too much fun together & we sure miss seeing them daily.

While we were playing, Shad was playing some golf & some cards & then some more golf.  (Soon enough, I'll have a pro-golfer & pro-swimmer on my hands, right?!?!)

After golf, Shad came home & took us to a local pizzeria he had heard about on the golf course in Rupert, Idaho.  We toured the thriving metropolis (as Shad calls it) of Rupert & Burley & had some fab pizza & ice cream from a local dairy.  Mmmmmm ...
See how 'local' it is?  Check out those 70's plates our parents all had when we were growing up.

Then we made the 45-minute drove home ... towards the sun,
so I loaned Cashe my sunglasses.

THEN, after church on Sunday, we thought we would try to take Cashe to his first movie at a theatre!
We went to see Ice Age 4 & it was a hit!
Cashe wasn't quite heavy enough to hold the seat down very well, so he stood through most of it, but had a ball.

Here he is getting ready to take his shoes off (or as he says, "oft").
MUST TAKE SHOES 'OFT' ALWAYS.
