Glamour Girl Meets Material Girl

My sweet friend Amber Joy turned 30 this year & had requested an incredible celebration for a few years now.

My best guess ... I think she had one.

The ‘girls’ event’ began with Belinis & muffins at Amber Joy’s house. I’m sure Amber Joy’s curiosity was getting the best of her as we all showed up in coordinated outfits on her doorstep at 9:00 a.m.

Nevertheless, she wasn’t disappointed shortly thereafter when she got a knock on her door by a limo driver (unfortunately it wasn’t Lloyd Christmas from Dumb & Dumber - see below– although little did I know I could’ve played the part only a few weeks later when one of my front teeth chipped off – I’ll save that for another blog post though).

So, we jumped in the limo & started our excursion that included a morning full of power shopping. And power shopping doesn’t even begin to define what Little Miss Birthday Girl had to do. She had four stores to go to, in which she had a wad of cash to spend in each store. The ‘power’ part came in when we had to move from store to store because our limo time was limited.

Don’t get me wrong though, Amber Joy rocked the party that rocked the partay. She had no trouble at all finding something in each store that she dazzled in.

I was in charge of putting together cute, little frames with balloons to go in each of the stores we were going to so she knew they knew we were all celebrating her.

Dianne made the incredible notes & envelopes (filled with moolah) that Amber Joy got at each store throughout the morning’s events.

And to make things even more marvelous, Jen made our morning limo cocktails & snacks.

After the money was spent & the limo was gone, we all had lunch on the river in the sun at Bella Aguilla in Eagle. Amber Joy was treated to the final ‘girly surprise’ afterwards, which included a massage at Two Rivers. Little did she know what lied ahead.

Fortunately, I was in desperate need of a haircut that day, so I headed back to Two Rivers (after AJ had left) & got my hair trimmed. The kicker was I had my stylist jack my hair up as high as she could for Amber Joy’s surprise 80’s party that night.

A bottle of hairspray later, I walked out of the salon after having had ALL the stylists help with my masterpiece. Apparently, I was a first for them in the realm of 80’s dos, so it became a collaborative effort as well as an opportunity for lots of laughs.

As soon as I walked in the door, Shad couldn’t keep a straight face & poor Cashe was totally confused. Shad put on his 80’s Miami Vice look with a redneck-mullet spin to it & I threw on a prom dress with a really small green bow across the bust & we were off!

The party was a hit & AJ was fairly surprised. I say fairly because when she came home from her morning with the girls, her hubby, Jason had sidesteps in the side of his head (brave man).

Jason did go all out & put together quite an incredible party. He even organized a gnarly 80’s outfit for AJ without her even knowing about it. He did great work for a great girl who is a great friend.

We love you, Amber Joy!

Welcome to the 30’s, girl!
