The top sales employees & their spouses are flown to Minnesota for a long weekend to be wined & dined while they are recognized for the hard work as top performers.
Normally, I get to go with Shad; however without having family in town to watch Cashe for the weekend we would be away, I opted not to go this year.
Shad was in San Antonio prior to flying to the awards ceremony & received an email just days before the event that they were required to wear suits to the banquet. Crud. He had packed slacks, a dress shirt & nice shoes (FYI - he normally wears khakis & a polo for everyday work; it's not a suit & tie job or he probably wouldn't be employed in this particular role - he has a bizarre fear of having a tie tied too tightly around his adam's apple.)
So, he texts me his predicament, but (oddly unlike him) has no solution. I told him I could overnight his suit to him so it would make it to Texas in time for him to take it to Minnesota. We tried that -- um, $87.00 later I said no. It makes far more sense to walk away with something tangible for nearly $100.00 than just a shipping fee. So he wound up buying a suit & having it tailored in San Antonio for double the price, but now he has another nice suit. Problem solved.
Well, Saturday morning came & typically we're having coffee together on the patio on Saturday mornings while Cashe runs around with his toy trucks. This particular Saturday, Cashe & I went for a long morning walk while Shad was grounded at the San Antonio airport because the Minneapolis airport had lost power.
Twelve hours later, a trip to Atlanta & a $100.00 cab ride to his hotel, Shad was safely in his room.
Or so he thought ...
The next morning, he texts me & tells me he's in the basement of their giganto Crown Plaza hotel due to tornado warnings. Holy bologna! (That actually does rhyme when you read it phonetically.)
After the scare is over & he puts on his new fancy suit (which I am terribly disappointed I didn't get to see debuted), he is able to enjoy his weekend while recognized as the Top Sales Person for the West for 2010. Go, Babe!
So, what's this Best Male Vocalist nonsense? My sister & brother-in-law insisted he was at the Grammys every time I mentioned he was at an awards ceremony. Luke asked if he was up for Best Male Vocalist of the Year. I just played along with it. Heck yeah! That's him singing his heart out to some Big & Rich a few ye
ars ago in Jackpot, Nevada. --> (Although, I think I'm a little more into it than he is.)Fortunately though, Luke hasn't heard my husband sing enough or he would've never brought it up. Shad always told me his choir teacher placed him in the bass section to drown him out in high school. Thankfully, he has thick skin. (Sorry, honey.)
Regardless, I didn't marry Steven Tyler. I married Shad Nyquest, Top Sales Person of the West!! Congratulations, my dear. We're proud of you & can't wait to see your shiny plaque (or pretend Grammy statue) & your new suit!
I love love love this photo! It always makes me laugh! Such a soul-bearing moment! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Shad!
